Zoology & Agricultural Systems – Year 1
Zoology & Agricultural Systems is the first course in the Agriculture, Agricultural Operations and Related Science Program at OHS. The major focus of Zoology & Agricultural Systems is on the biology of animals and the study of animal contributions to the agricultural industry. Through hands-on experiences and projects, students will learn and apply foundation skills within real-world agricultural contexts. Students will learn about safety, animal anatomy and physiology, domestic animal production, and animal health and nutrition in a hands-on learning environment. This course is centered on an extensive laboratory component to connect the ideas of animal science with agricultural applications and other curricular areas, including written and oral skills. All Agriscience students will be expected to participate in the highly acclaimed student organization, FFA, where they will learn additional leadership and career readiness skills.
Botany & Natural Resources – Year 2
Botany & Natural Resources is the second course in the Agriculture, Agricultural Operations and Related Science Program at OHS. The major focus of Botany & Natural Resources is the study of plants, the environment, and their relationships and importance to man. Using agriculture and natural resources as the learning vehicle, the course emphasizes the principles of plant physiology, growth and reproduction as well as the ecological relationships between plants, humans and the environment. This course is centered on an extensive laboratory component to connect the ideas of life science with agricultural applications and other curricular areas, including written and oral skills.
Agricultural Leadership– Year 3
Agricultural Leadership is a year-long course that is open to AFNR program completers (students who have passed 2.0 credits of AFNR courses with a C or better). This course introduces students to leadership opportunities and skills development in agriculture, food and natural resources industries. This course will also give students a handson learning experience in event planning, service learning, agricultural literacy and advocacy experiences.
Students will have the opportunity to earn industry-supported and state-approved certifications in this course. Students will continue to learn about and be an active member of the National FFA Organization.
