It is truly an honor to serve as Principal of Owosso High School. I am one of nine children, born and raised in this community, having attended Goss, Green Meadows, and Central Elementary Schools, Owosso Junior High, graduating from Owosso High School in 1978. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Central Michigan University in 1983 and a Master of Arts degree in Education Administration from California State University - Long Beach in 1988.
I moved to California in 1984 and began my career at Nimitz Junior High School, in Huntington Park, CA, teaching History, Physical Education, and Health. For the next nine years, I taught at Torrance High School, in Torrance, CA, teaching Government, Economics, and US History, coaching football and baseball, serving as Athletic Director, my last three years. I moved back to Michigan in 1994, serving eight years as Athletic Director at Mt. Pleasant High School. I came back to Owosso High School in 2002 as Athletic Director, now beginning my eleventh year as the building Principal.
My wife, Owosso Middle School Language Arts teacher, Susie Shanahan
Phillips (OHS class of 1979), and I have two daughters: Rachel, (OHS
class of 2007), graduate of the University of Michigan in 2011,
currently living in Ann Arbor with her husband Ian, working as a
Communications Lead and Megan, (OHS class of 2010), graduate of the
University Of Michigan in 2014 and from the University of Texas-Dallas
in 2016, currently living Dallas, TX, with her husband Grayson and daughter Elizabeth, working as a Speech Pathologist.
