Sports and Entertainment Marketing I/II – Year 1/2

These courses are an analysis of effective management strategies and the body of knowledge associated with pursuing a career in sports and entertainment management. The course introduces the student to sports management and entertainment career opportunities and to sports and entertainment principles as they apply to management, leadership style, communication, motivation and entrepreneurship. Students will gain an understanding of how marketing impacts our economy, the decisions they make as consumers, and how companies try to influence individual purchase decisions related to these industries. Students will participate in interactive lectures, discussions, application projects, and activities including gaining knowledge and registration as a sports official. Sports and Entertainment Marketing will prepare students for advanced studies in marketing/management and create an inside look at how and why the sports and entertainment industry operates. Much of this course’s work will be accomplished with student teams. 

 

Marketing: Store Operation I/II - Year 2 or 3 

Store Operations focuses on the functions of marketing and how they impact retail markets. Students will gain an authentic retail experience through running the Trojan Spirit Store, the OHS school store, while participating in interactive lectures, discussions, application projects, and activities. This course expands student understanding of business management. It exposes students to several aspects of business, including international business, business planning and entrepreneurship, financial analysis, communications, business management and leadership. An emphasis will be placed on marketing management, where students will develop marketing activities and plans, generate product ideas, coordinate promotional activities, and demonstrate sales processes by working in the Trojan Spirit Store.

Students will learn about the core business management fundamentals and apply the concepts to real-world scenarios. They will study information technology application and data management, operations and quality management, human resources, project management, workplace safety, career and professional development, and retail employment. Students will explore the various business-related careers and participate in a job shadow experience.

Entrepreneurial Management Capstone - after complete of at least 2 classes

This is the continuation of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, where students are engaged in the day-to-day operations of a virtual company, run in conjunction with the Virtual Enterprise International organization. Third year students will be placed in senior management positions within the company, where they will be responsible for oversight, development and direction for the daily operations of the company. Experiences will include writing, editing and presenting business plans orally to potential investors and to local business leaders. Increased activity with international emphasis will provide first-hand opportunities in currency exchange and management. More in-depth work in Accounting practices include project management budgeting
